Craig A. Umscheid, MD, MSCE


Leveraging the Library to Improve Evidence-Based Practice Across an Academic Healthcare System


Dr Umscheid is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, a practicing hospitalist, and Director of the Penn Medicine Center for Evidence-based Practice, a hospital-based comparative effectiveness center funded by Penn to summarize, disseminate and implement scientific evidence for high impact decision making. Dr Umscheid is board certified in internal medicine and practices at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Building Our Information Future: MLA 2014 Update

Dixie Jones has over 35 years of experience in the health sciences information profession. She has worked in a nursing school, a hospital, and a medical school. Currently, Dixie is director of the Health Sciences Library at LSU Health Shreveport. She has served as president of the Health Sciences Library Association of Louisiana and the South Central Chapter of MLA.


Lunch will be followed by a free CE course sponsored by MAR NN/LM

Susan Fowler, MLIS

Introduction to Systematic Reviews for Librarians


Susan Fowler is a Clinical Librarian and Coordinator of Systematic Reviews at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She earned her Master’s in Library and Information Science in 2006 from the University of Missouri – Columbia. She is currently serving as a MLA Representative and President for ICIRN (Interagency Council on Information Resources in Nursing) and is co-editor of the 27th biannual, Essential Nursing Resources: One Source for Evidence-Based Nursing Practice. She is also serving as the NAHRS representative on the MLA Nominating Committee. Susan was a librarian instructor for the McMaster University program, How to Teach Evidence Based Clinical Practice, for the past two years.
